Park Mammoth: Golf in Park City, Kentucky

Wikipedia's "Park City, Kentucky" article states, verbatim: "Exit 48 off I-65 is the only direct access exit to the Mammoth Cave National Park," and "U.S. Route 31W passes through the center of the city." By road from the course's own address: Bowling Green-Warren County Regional Airport is 30.0 miles; Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport is 87.6 miles; Nashville International Airport is 97.1 miles; the Lodge at Mammoth Cave, the closest overnight option inside Mammoth Cave National Park, is 11.5 miles.

Golf Digest's own course page carries the header "Park Mammoth Golf Club: Park Mammoth," lists it Public, 18 holes, opened in 2006, and gives the course a single ranking pill, "#10 Best In State" -- the same rank that places it last among Kentucky's ten. No architect is credited: Golf Digest's own record lists the designer field as empty, and the operator's site names none either. The club's own text reads, "We look forward to continuing to serve Edmonson County and areas for miles around" -- the course itself lies outside any incorporated place, in unincorporated Edmonson County, on a Park City mailing address. Golf Digest's own record for this course carries that single honor and no other: its ranking-history section is empty, and no earlier or higher pill is listed anywhere on its page for the course. This guide publishes that one confirmed ranking and no other claim of a ranking or award for Park Mammoth. The course is closed Mondays; it is open Tuesday to Sunday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., open until noon on Christmas Eve, and closed Christmas Day. Alongside the 18-hole course, the operator also runs Little Mammoth, a nine-hole, par-3 companion course priced separately on the same rate sheet.

The operator's own "2026 Seasonal Rates" page prices 18 holes at $89 on an in-season weekday (greens fee $64 plus a $25 cart fee) and $119 on an in-season weekend (greens fee $94 plus the $25 cart fee); off-season, the same rounds are $74 on a weekday (greens fee $49 plus the $25 cart fee) and $99 on a weekend. The off-season weekend row's own printed breakdown does not add to its own total, so that breakdown is not repeated here -- the four totals above are the operator's own published figures and are what a golfer is charged. Weekday all-day play is $130 in-season and $110 off-season; weekend all-day play is $170 in-season and $145 off-season; Little Mammoth is $25 for nine holes or $50 for the day. Tee times are booked publicly online through Chronogolf, with no membership required; the public booking window opens seven days ahead, reservations can be cancelled up to 24 hours before play, and green fees are paid at the course, where card payments carry a 3% processing fee. In season, a second round booked at the weekend cannot be scheduled before 2 p.m. on the Championship Course, though it may be moved earlier at check-in if a tee time is free, and there is no walking rate before 11 a.m. at weekends or on holidays; out of season, the operator lists no second-round restriction. The operator's own "2026 Mammoth Club Membership" page also offers a $100 annual card -- a discount programme carrying a 2026 USGA Handicap and 20% off weekday rates in season, not a condition of play.

Kentucky State Parks' own listing gives the course's name, in its title field, as "Barren River Lake State Park Golf Course" -- the same site's "Things to do" page instead styles it "Barren River State Resort Park Golf Course," so the state's own pages disagree on the exact form and neither is treated as the single canonical one. It is an 18-hole, par-72 layout measuring 6,516 yards from the back tees, and the state's own page states that "In 2025, the golf course underwent a significant greens renovation to elevate the playing experience. The putting surfaces were converted to ultradwarf bermuda grass." The course is in Barren County. Kentucky State Parks names its own public booking site for the course, https://barrenriver.cps.golf, and lists a phone number, (270) 646-4653; no dated green fee is published there, so none is stated here. The park's own policy reads: "Alcohol not purchased at Kentucky State Parks is not allowed by law on our golf courses. Personal coolers -- or any type of food or beverage storage device -- are not permitted."

Park Mammoth has no lodging and no restaurant of its own. Its entire navigation runs Home, Rates, Course Details, Events Calendar, Contact Us, Online Store, Mammoth Club membership and a tee-time booking link, and nothing about rooms, cabins or food service appears anywhere on it. So a visitor sleeps somewhere else, and there are two honest answers rather than one, because the course sits between two different kinds of place — and they are in two different counties, which this guide states rather than reconciles.

The nearer is Park City itself, the incorporated city the course uses for mail, 3.7 road miles from the course along Bald Knob Road, Louisville Road, 2nd Street, West Dixie Street and Old Dixie Highway. Park City is in Barren County. The course is not: the Census geocoder returns Edmonson County and no incorporated place at all at the course's own coordinates, while a control query at Cave City's city hall returns both a county and "Cave City city" from the same fields, so the absence is real rather than a failed lookup. In Park City, at 5 Old Dixie Hwy, the Grand Victorian Inn describes itself as offering "lodging in Park City, KY" with "11 beautiful and unique Victorian guest rooms," each individually decorated with a private bath, cable TV and wireless internet, around a wrap-around porch "in a country setting, causes you to relax and enjoy the occasional train passing by." The building is the former Mammoth Cave Train Station Hotel and is now the trailhead for the bike and hike trail to Mammoth Cave National Park. Breakfast is included — coffee, fruit and juice at 8 a.m., a full breakfast served to all guests together at 8:30 — and check-in runs from 3 to 5 p.m., with self-check-in instructions texted to guests who call ahead. Its cancellation terms are strict: the first night is non-refundable, a special rate makes the whole stay non-refundable, additional nights at full rate are refundable only 30 days ahead, and a $50 fee applies to any cancelled reservation. The room count is disputed at source — the inn's own home page says 11, its own navigation exposes twelve room pages and Park City Tourism says thirteen — so the operator's own figure is the one repeated here. Book on 270-590-1935; no nightly rate is published anywhere on its site.

The other is Mammoth Cave National Park, 11.5 road miles from the course by Bald Knob Road, Louisville Road, 2nd Street, Mammoth Cave Pkwy Road, Park City Road and Mammoth Cave Parkway — and, unlike Park City, in Edmonson County, the same county as the course. The National Park Service's own lodging page calls The Lodge at Mammoth Cave "the closest option for overnight stays in the park," places it "directly next to the visitor center," describes "a mix of modern hotel rooms as well as historic cottages nestled in a woodland setting," recommends advance reservations and gives the numbers (844)760-CAVE and 270-758-2225. The property's own reservation record lists Sunset Terrace rooms, Historic Cottages, Heritage Trail rooms, Family Cabins and Woodland Cottages in bed configurations from one queen up to eight, notes that the ten historic cottages stand about a tenth of a mile from their parking, and records that the Woodland Cottages allow pets and carry no television and no Wi-Fi. Check-in is 15:00, check-out 11:00, and the front desk is staffed 7:00 am to 10:00 pm daily. Two things are recorded rather than resolved: the site brands itself Mammoth Cave Lodge while the Park Service and the property's own booking record both write The Lodge at Mammoth Cave, and the operator publishes two different street addresses for it, 2811 Entrance Rd. and 171 Hotel Road, both inside the park, so this guide publishes neither. No nightly rate is published, and the operator's own pages do not name who holds the park concession.

Dining splits the same way. At the lodge, the Green River Grill & Bar keeps its own telephone line, (270) 451-2288, separate from the front desk, and the operator writes that "The Green River Grill features Kentucky favorites prepared with local and regional farm-fresh foods" and that it is "incredibly proud to be a 3-star certified Green Restaurant." It posts "Open Daily," with lunch from 11:00 am to 3:30 pm and dinner from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Its printed breakfast window ends after both of those services — an error on the operator's own page — so no breakfast hours are repeated here. The lodge's three other outlets are The Lantern Café, for "grab and go food needs and ice cream," 10:00 am to 6:00 pm; The Maple Springs Coffee & Gift Shop, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm; and Caver's Camp Store, Sunday to Thursday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and Friday and Saturday 8:00 am to 7:00 pm. On the Park City side, Esters Farm Cafe & Catering cooks, in its own words, "Comfort Food that Feels Like Home… every dish from scratch, using real ingredients, time-honored recipes, and techniques passed down through generations. No shortcuts. Nothing freezer to oven," and warns that "Menus vary by day and season. Scratch food takes time, but it's worth the wait. Some items may sell out." It serves lunch Wednesday to Sunday, 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and dinner Wednesday to Saturday, 4:30 to 8 p.m., closed Monday and Tuesday, on 270-544-7341. No mileage is given for it: its street number does not resolve in the Census address file, and the only mapped feature carrying its name contradicts the operator's own published distances to Cave City and Glasgow, so a figure here would be a guess.
