Shadow Creek: Golf in North Las Vegas, Nevada

Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) is the nearest commercial airport for both courses. Shadow Creek sits off Interstate 15, inside North Las Vegas city limits; sources describe the drive from the airport and from the Strip only in minutes, never in a stated mileage, and none of those figures is published here. TPC Las Vegas is across the valley, inside the Summerlin master-planned community in Las Vegas — the operator's own words: "The course is located within the nation's largest master-planned community of Summerlin." No road mileage between the two courses is available from a fetchable source.

Tom Fazio designed Shadow Creek, with a renovation also by Fazio in 2008. golf.com dates the opening to 1989; Golf Digest's own course profile dates it to 1990. The build cost around $60 million on a 350-acre site. MGM Resorts International took over ownership in 2000: golf.com, verbatim, "MGM Resorts International took over ownership in 2000 and made the luxe course available for guests of designated MGM properties." The course has hosted The Match: Tiger vs. Phil (2018); the PGA Tour's CJ Cup in October 2020; The Match in December 2024, pairing Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler against Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka; and the Bank of Hope LPGA Match-Play, held at Shadow Creek every year since 2021 — the 2025 edition ran as the T-Mobile Match Play. Golf Digest's 2025-'26 course profile currently ranks it #24 on America's 100 Greatest and #3 on the 100 Greatest Public. Separately, golf.com reported that "the course ranked 14th on GOLF's latest list of the Top 100 Courses You Can Play" — a different publisher's list.

Golf Digest labels Shadow Creek "Public" and describes the public-labelled courses in its Nevada top 20 as "accessible to the public (though many with high green fees)." In practice the label overstates it: Shadow Creek cannot be booked by a walk-up member of the public at all. GolfPass, a different publisher, classifies the same course as "Private/Resort," not public — the two publishers disagree, and only the operator's own terms settle it. Shadow Creek's own site once stated the rule plainly: "Your entry to Shadow Creek begins when you register as a guest of an MGM Resorts International destination." The stay is the ticket; there is no route in that starts with the golf course. Sources disagree on exactly which MGM properties qualify, so a visitor should ask the hotel before booking a room on the strength of it. Shadow Creek's long-time general manager, Monte Montgomery, described the rest of the rule to golf.com on December 6, 2024: Monday through Thursday, a qualifying hotel guest can call and request a time through the property. Weekends are different in kind, not just in price: "weekends are reserved for comped players only, so you have to have a host. They are really the only ones that can make a reservation for you, if you are a comp player, which means you got to have a credit line to gamble." A casino host relationship and a gambling credit line are not things an ordinary visiting golfer can arrange for the sake of a round. Montgomery added one partial exception: "Some Sundays we open up." Treat that as occasional, not as standing availability. A private limousine to the course is included in the rate. Sources disagree on the caddie: golf.com (December 2024) described it as included; The Golf News Net (April 2026) says the caddie is paid separately from the green fee.

Playing Shadow Creek means staying at a qualifying MGM Resorts hotel on the Las Vegas Strip. MGM Grand is an MGM Resorts International property on the Strip at 3799 South Las Vegas Boulevard, Las Vegas. Its dining page, per its distribution partner Marriott, names Joel Robuchon, L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon, Morimoto Las Vegas, Craftsteak, Emeril's New Orleans Fish House and Hakkasan among its restaurants; naming them here is not a claim that any is currently open. Bellagio sits at the corner of Flamingo and Las Vegas Boulevard on the Strip. A tour operator's profile of the resort names one of its restaurants: "The French restaurant Le Cirque, a renowned pre-theatre dinner location, is one of the favourite fine dining locations" — again, a naming, not a trading claim.

TPC Las Vegas is confirmed genuinely public by its own operator, with no hotel-stay gate. The site's own title: "TPC Las Vegas | PGA TOUR Public Golf in Las Vegas, Nevada." Its navigation offers "Tee Times" and "Book a Tee Time," and the site addresses the reader as "our guest" throughout — no membership, invitation or hotel stay is stated anywhere on the page. It sits at #17 "Public" on the same Golf Digest Nevada ranking that places Shadow Creek at #1. The operator describes it as "a par 71, 7,016-yard" course designed by Bobby Weed and Raymond Floyd, located within the Summerlin master-planned community in Las Vegas — not North Las Vegas. It hosted the PGA Tour Champions' Las Vegas Senior Classic from 1994 to 2001. A second genuinely public option is Bali Hai Golf Club, a daily-fee course with no membership or resort-stay requirement; it books through the TeeItUp system or by phone at (702) 597-2400, and in its October–May peak season recommends booking two to four weeks ahead for weekend mornings and one to two weeks ahead for weekdays.
