Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis Club: Golf in Jackson, Wyoming

Jackson Hole Airport (JAC) is a public airport located seven miles north of Jackson, in Teton County, Wyoming, and is the only commercial airport in the United States located inside a national park, Grand Teton National Park. From downtown Jackson, the club's own directions give a route of 7.91 miles: north on N Center St toward E Deloney Ave, right onto N Cache Dr, which carries US-189, US-191, US-26 and US-89 together for 6.8 miles, then left onto Golf Course Rd for 0.5 miles and left onto Spring Gulch Rd for 0.5 miles, ending at 5000 Spring Gulch Rd. From Teton Village, the club's directions give a total of 20.40 miles. Idaho Falls, Idaho, lies 88 miles from Jackson via US-26.

Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis Club is semi-private. Its own site states: "Semi-private Club with daily tee times available to non-members, 1pm-2pm daily." The 1pm-2pm span is when non-members tee off, not when they may call: the club sells the public a fixed afternoon block, and its booking engine lists only tee times between 1:00pm and 1:40pm. Reservations can be made online at any hour through the tee-time link at jhgtc.com, or by phone at the Pro Shop, 307.733.3111 x1. No lodging or resort stay is required. Guests who do not show for a tee time, or have not cancelled at least five days in advance, are charged the full greens fee. The club's 2026 rate card lists a daily green fee of $195 from opening through May 22 and $300 from May 23 to close, both for the 1pm-2pm non-member block, and both including tax, cart rental and use of the practice facilities. Rental clubs are $95 per person per day. The golf course opens in early May and closes in mid-October, so there is no winter golf here.

Jackson Hole's original course was unveiled in 1965, designed by California-based architect Bob Baldock. Two years after it opened, Laurance Rockefeller purchased the property and appointed Robert Trent Jones Jr. to redesign the layout. Vail Resorts acquired the Grand Teton Lodge Company in 1999 and spent the best part of eight years carrying out improvements at the club, including a redesign of the 1st and 15th holes, twenty new tees added to increase overall length, and a new irrigation system. The course hosted the 1988 U.S. Amateur Public Links and the 1993 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links.

Jackson is the basecamp. Hotel Jackson, at 120 N Glenwood St, sits on Jackson's Town Square, with on-site dining at FIGS and the rooftop Juliette. Snake River Grill, at 84 E. Broadway on the Town Square, is a modern American grill with a wood-burning oven, open nightly from 5pm to 9pm. At the club itself, the North Grille serves lunch, Après Golf and dinner through the summer season, and reservations are strongly encouraged.

For a second round, cross the state line. Teton Reserve, in Victor, Idaho — a different county in a different state, Teton County, Idaho, not Teton County, Wyoming — is labelled "Public" by Golf Digest and was designed by Hale Irwin. The operator's own site states the course is "located in Victor, Idaho just 23 miles from Jackson Hole, Wyoming," and it takes bookings through a 24/7 online tee-time booking engine. Non-resident green fees for the main season, June 1 through September 14, are $95 walking and $110 riding for 18 holes; in the early and late season, before June 1 and after September 14, they are $55 walking and $70 riding. Teton Pines Resort and Golf Club, in Wilson, Wyoming, is not an option for an ordinary traveller: its own site limits outside play to "very limited afternoon reciprocal tee times," arranged through a home club's golf professional, reservable no more than seven days ahead, and only after 2pm.
