A museum at 1040 Grand Concourse, on the northeast corner of 165th Street. Admission has been free every day since March 29, 2012, having previously been free only on Fridays, and the stated hours are Wednesday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The museum's 2026 exhibition calendar includes "The Seventh AIM Biennial: Forms of Connection", running January 23 to September 6, 2026.
History
The museum was established on May 11, 1971 by the Bronx Council on the Arts with the Metropolitan Museum of Art; its founder was Irma Fleck. It moved to its current building, a former synagogue, in May 1983, and expanded in 1988 at a cost of $5.8 million and again in 2006 at a cost of $19 million, doubling to 33,000 square feet.
