Cathedral Pines

Cathedral Pines is a 42-acre old-growth forest preserve in Cornwall, Connecticut, owned and managed by The Nature Conservancy and open to the public, per Wikipedia's article on the preserve. Wikipedia states the preserve "was mostly destroyed by tornadoes in July 1989" — the same tornado outbreak that struck Mohawk Mountain elsewhere in Cornwall. The Nature Conservancy's own preserve page corroborates the event, describing what had been "New England's largest stand of old-growth white pine and hemlock trees" as "devastated by three tornadoes in July 1989," and states that a trail today "traverses the remaining intact portion of the stand." The Town of Cornwall's own website directs visitors to "meet at Cathedral Pines Parking at the foot of Essex Hill."
