Churchill War Rooms

During the Second World War a group of basement offices in Whitehall, known as the Cabinet War Rooms, was occupied by leading government ministers, military strategists and Prime Minister Winston Churchill. Imperial War Museums calls it the secret underground headquarters of the Second World War, describes the rooms as left as they were in 1945 and gives the site as sitting under 12 feet of concrete and steel; the adjoining Churchill Museum covers Churchill's 90-year life. The designation is of the host building rather than of the museum: NHLE 1066103 is named New Government Offices (HM Treasury) and archway link with Foreign Office at east end of King Charles Street. The Grade II statue of Sir Winston Churchill stands about 250 m away in Parliament Square, NHLE 1392374.
