Crotched Mountain Ski & Ride

Ski New Hampshire's own resort directory lists Crotched Mountain Ski & Ride's address as 615 Francestown Road, Francestown, NH 03442. Crotched Mountain's northern slopes lie in Francestown, its western slopes in Bennington, and its southern ridge in Greenfield, per Wikipedia's "Crotched Mountain" article. Crotched Mountain originally opened on December 14, 1969, as a $1.4 million development under Onset Corporation, owned by Richard P. Verro, according to New England Ski History. In December 1980, US Windpower installed 20 wind turbines rated at 30 kilowatts each, with a combined capacity of 0.6 MW, on the mountain's shoulder; Wikipedia describes it as "the world's first wind farm." The company that installed the turbines subsequently failed, and the turbines were dismantled years later. Crotched Mountain closed in 1990 after a failed sale deal fell through, and sat idle for over a decade, per New England Ski History. In 2002, Peak Resorts acquired Crotched Mountain Ski & Ride, "a small ski area that had been shut for more than a decade," per Wikipedia's "Peak Resorts" article; Peak Resorts "built a new lodge, redid trails," and reopened the area, following a roughly $10 million reconstruction, on December 20, 2003, per New England Ski History. Vail Resorts announced its acquisition of Peak Resorts, which owned Crotched Mountain, on July 22, 2019, and the acquisition was completed on September 24, 2019, the same day Peak Resorts' common stock was delisted from the Nasdaq Global Select Market, per Wikipedia.
