Federal Hill Park

History
The site was originally called John Smith's Hill, after Captain John Smith's voyage of 1608, and was renamed Federal Hill after Maryland's Constitutional ratification celebration of 1788. It served military purposes during the War of 1812 and the Civil War, and was acquired by the City of Baltimore as public property in 1880.
