Pedestrians on the Fulton Mall

A bus-and-pedestrian-only shopping corridor of roughly 230 stores along Fulton Street.

History

A merchant-led revitalization in the 1970s narrowed the roadway and widened the sidewalks. A $24 million redesign by the architect Lee Harris Pomeroy was completed in 1984, and an $8 million streetscape renovation began in 2024. Fulton Street once anchored the department stores Abraham & Straus, Frederick Loeser & Co. and A.I. Namm & Son.
