Gay City State Park

More than 1,500 acres straddling Hebron and Bolton, with a lakeside swimming beach, fishing, picnicking, hiking, and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in winter. Open daily late April through Columbus Day, 8 a.m. to sunset; free for in-state vehicles, $10-$15 for out-of-state.
History
The park preserves the site and ruins of the 1796 Methodist mill village of Gay City, founded by settlers unhappy with Hartford's alcohol restrictions.
