History

The grounds were registered at Grade I on 9 January 2002 as list entry 1001575. The crematorium building is a separate Grade II listed entry, NHLE 1064865, listed 19 March 1981, and the boundary wall with its attached memorials and gates is Grade II, NHLE 1064769; the Mausoleum to the Philipson Family is Grade II*, NHLE 1064788, and the Martin Smith Mausoleum Grade II, NHLE 1064770. The land was bought in 1900 for £6,000 and the crematorium opened in 1902 under Sir Henry Thompson, founder of the Cremation Society. Directly opposite on Hoop Lane, the Hoop Lane Jewish Cemetery is a Grade II registered park and garden, NHLE 1465310, registered 11 December 2020, at 3.19 hectares. Golders Green Underground Station, on the Northern line, is 533 m away and Brent Cross 1,427 m.
