Hanwell Flight of Locks and Three Bridges

The Hanwell flight is six locks on the Grand Union Canal, raising the water by just over 53 ft (16.2 m). It is a scheduled monument, NHLE 1001963, under the name Hanwell flight of locks and brick boundary wall of St Bernard's Hospital, and as a scheduled monument it carries no Grade. Windmill Bridge, at the top of the flight, is separately scheduled as NHLE 1002020 and is the three-level structure known locally as Three Bridges.
History
The lock flight was scheduled in 1975 over 0.56 hectares across seven national grid references. Windmill Bridge, where the canal, the Brentford branch railway and the road cross, was scheduled on 26 January 1970 over 0.22 hectares and is Brunel's work. Four lock-keepers' cottages on the flight are individually listed Grade II - lock 92, NHLE 1189276; lock 93, NHLE 1079418; lock 95, NHLE 1294339; and lock 97, NHLE 1358765 - and the walls, gates, sluices and bridge at lock 90 are Grade II, NHLE 1358764. There is no street address for the flight itself; UB2 4NH is the nearest postcode to the scheduled centroid.
