Hope Memorial Bridge

A 4,490-foot Art Deco truss bridge over the Cuyahoga River, also called the Lorain-Carnegie Bridge, connecting Lorain Avenue on the west side to Carnegie Avenue on the east side. Construction ran from 1927 to 1932 at a cost of $4.75 million. The bridge terminates just short of Progressive Field.
History
Eight monumental statues called the Guardians of Traffic adorn the bridge's pylons. Henry Hering sculpted them to the architect Frank Walker's design, and they were carved of Berea Sandstone in Cleveland's Little Italy neighborhood; each holds a different vehicle — a hay wagon, a covered wagon, a stagecoach, a 1930s-era automobile. The sculptures directly inspired the Cleveland Guardians' 2021 name change.
