A Beaux Arts library of over 100,000 books with a chess club, at 57-65 Post Street; the telephone number is (415) 393-0101. The library opens Monday to Friday from 10am to 6pm, until 8pm on Tuesday and Thursday, and Saturday from 10am to 5pm. The chess room opens Monday to Friday from 10am to 6pm and Saturday from 10am to 5pm. The building opens Monday to Friday from 8.15am, until 6pm and until 8pm on Tuesday and Thursday, and Saturday from 9.30am to 5.30pm. Both are closed on Sunday. San Francisco Landmark No. 134, designated in 1981.
History
The chess club runs a Grandmaster-in-Residence programme, and there are meeting rooms on the 3rd and 4th floors. The institute is a nonprofit with EIN 94-1254644.
