A music venue at 3730 N Clark Street, founded by Joe Shanahan and first opened in 1982, with a capacity of 1,100 across the main floor and balcony. The building also houses Smart Bar, which opened in July 1982 as a dance club, was initially on the fourth floor, and later moved to the basement beneath the main venue; Smart Bar holds 400.

History

The building was built in 1927 as a Swedish Community Center. It ran as Stages Music Hall from 1979 to 1982 and as Cabaret Metro from 1982 to 1992. Acts who have played there include Nirvana, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, Jane's Addiction, Hole, Oasis, Smashing Pumpkins and Liz Phair.
