Newbury Park Station Bus Shelter

The Newbury Park station bus shelter is a concrete-and-copper barrel vault by Oliver Hill standing over the bus station on Eastern Avenue, IG2 7RN, beside the Underground entrance. It opened on 6 July 1949 and is listed Grade II as NHLE 1081019. It stands over a working bus station and is seen from the street at any hour.
History
The Grade II listing was made on 19 March 1981 as list entry 1081019 and amended on 30 July 2021, under the list name "Newbury Park Station Bus Shelter". The railway station beneath it was opened by the Great Eastern Railway on 1 May 1903; Underground trains began serving it on 14 December 1947 through the Gants Hill tunnel, and the line was extended to Hainault on 31 May 1948. Newbury Park is on the Central line's Hainault loop between Gants Hill and Barkingside, in fare zone 4, and lifts giving step-free access were completed in November 2018, about ten years after Transport for London had abandoned the project. TfL records the bus station as a stop in its own right, naptanId 910GILFENBP, about 79 m from the Underground station stop, 940GZZLUNBP; the shelter stands between the two, about 43 m from the Underground stop.
