A fort at the fourth kilometre of via Ostiense, from which it takes its name. Its own article places it in quartiere Q. X Ostiense, in the territory of Municipio Roma IX. It is now a working Polizia di Stato facility, housing the Centro Psicotecnico and the Servizio Tecnico Logistico, and it is not a visitor site.
History
It is one of the fifteen forts built round Rome between 1877 and 1891; work began in 1882 and finished in 1884, on a site of 8.8 hectares. On 10 September 1943 some eight hundred Grenadiers held out here against German paratroopers who had come up through the EUR; Don Pietro Occelli, director of the Istituto Gaetano Giardino next door, raised a white sheet to surrender the fort. Suor Teresina di Sant'Anna, born Cesarina D'Angelo, died on 8 May 1944 of injuries received from a German soldier in the fort's chapel.
