History

The operator states that the venue was originally opened as the Empire Pool in July 1934, built for the 1934 British Empire Games. It held boxing, diving, swimming and water polo at the 1948 Summer Olympics and badminton and rhythmic gymnastics at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and its first concert was in 1959. The operator gives over 120 shows a year and over a million visitors, and states that Legends Global manages and operates the venue.
