The Army shipping operation that worked out of Fort Mason. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on 4 February 1985, reference number 85002433, as a National Historic Landmark with 14 contributing buildings. Wikipedia records the San Francisco Port of Embarkation as operating from 1932 to 1955.
History
During the Second World War, Fort Mason became the headquarters of the San Francisco Port of Embarkation, controlling a network of shipping facilities across the Bay Area. The Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture describes itself as the nonprofit steward of the former San Francisco Port of Embarkation.
