Queens Center
Shop · Elmhurst, New York
A mall on Queens Boulevard that opened on September 12, 1973 and was renovated and expanded onto the far side of 92nd Street in 2002-4.
History
It was built on land previously occupied by Fairyland, a 24-ride children's amusement park that opened in 1949 and closed in 1968. LPC's Elks Lodge report records that development in Elmhurst included "the borough's first enclosed shopping mall, which opened in 1973," without naming the building. Queens Place, further along Queens Boulevard, had opened eight years earlier in 1965.
