Quinebaug Valley State Fish Hatchery

Built in 1971 on approximately 2,000 acres, drawing on 14 wells for the 5,000 gallons per minute needed for fish production. Visitors can walk past the hatch house, circular grow-out tanks and brood-stock raceways. Open to the public 8 a.m.-3 p.m., seven days a week; group tours by arrangement (860-564-7542).
