A free children's and natural-science museum standing inside Corona Heights Park, owned and operated by San Francisco Recreation and Parks. Its own site gives Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Sunday and Monday, admission free, telephone (415) 554-9600. Cafe Josephine inside it opens Tuesday to Friday 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
History
The institution was established in 1937 as the Junior Museum, in a former city jail on what is now the City College campus. It opened at the Corona Heights site in 1951, in a building by the architect William Merchant, and was dedicated by Mayor Elmer Robinson on 23 September 1951 as the Josephine D. Randall Junior Museum.
