The ground was known in the 19th century as Knowles Hill or Hunger Hill Common Field, and the present name comes from Roundwood House, which stood beside it. Wikipedia names Oliver Claude Robson as the designer who created the park and gives the area as 26.5 acres, while Historic England records 10.63 hectares. The park has held the Green Flag Award.
