Shirley Chisholm State Park

A New York State park built atop the former Pennsylvania Avenue and Fountain Avenue landfills, which NYC Sanitation closed in 1983, and developed for public use between 2017 and 2019. It is named for the Brooklyn-born congresswoman Shirley Chisholm. The state lists it as open year-round from 8:00 AM to dusk, with about 10 miles of biking and hiking trails, waterfront piers, picnic areas and a free bike-library program.
