St. Louis Union Station

A mixed-use complex at 1820 Market Street, in a building that opened as a railroad station on September 1, 1894 and has carried no Amtrak service since October 31, 1978. It now holds the St. Louis Union Station Hotel, a 567-room Curio Collection by Hilton property; the St. Louis Aquarium, which opened on December 25, 2019 and is described as featuring more than 13,000 animals across over 250 species; and the St. Louis Wheel, a 200-foot Ferris wheel with climate-controlled gondolas. Its own site also names The Train Shed, The Pitch Athletic Club & Tavern and the Soda Fountain among the on-site dining. Current hours and admission prices for the aquarium, the wheel and the hotel could not be established.
History
The station was designed by Theodore Link with the civil engineer George H. Pegram and originally had 31 tracks under an enclosed train shed; on completion it was the world's largest and busiest railroad station. It received National Historic Landmark designation in 1970, and an adaptive-reuse renovation began in 1985. The headhouse's Grand Hall has a gold-leafed ceiling, Romanesque arches, a 65-foot barrel-vaulted ceiling and stained-glass windows; the building is constructed of Indiana limestone and its clock tower is 230 feet tall.
