The Wallace Collection

The Wallace Collection is at Hertford House, Manchester Square, W1U 3BN, and opens daily 10.00 to 17.00, closing on 24, 25 and 26 December. Entry to the permanent collection is free. It is a national museum of painting, sculpture, furniture, arms and armour, and porcelain.
History
The collection was built over the 18th and 19th centuries by the Marquesses of Hertford and Sir Richard Wallace, and was given to the British nation in 1897 by Lady Wallace so that it could be kept together. Hertford House is listed Grade II, NHLE 1239252; its forecourt walls, gate piers and railings are a separate Grade II entry, NHLE 1239308, and the drinking fountain in the forecourt is Grade II*, NHLE 1277828. Manchester Square itself, with Portman Square, is a Grade II registered park and garden, NHLE 1000820. Bond Street station is 339 m away by its Underground entrance and 407 m by its Elizabeth line entrance; Marble Arch is 625 m, Oxford Circus 727 m and Baker Street 745 m.
