Union Square Park

Opened as a public park in July 1839 and named a National Historic Landmark in 1997 as the site of the first Labor Day parade in 1882. Home to Henry Kirke Brown's 1856 equestrian statue of George Washington, the first public sculpture erected in New York City since 1770.
