Washington Cemetery office and grave rows

A Jewish cemetery established in 1850 under the 1847 Rural Cemetery Act. It first served German Jewish immigrants and later became a burial ground for Russian and Eastern European Jewish immigrants, with many hometown-association plots laid out by landsmannschaft burial societies.

History

The cemetery office stands at Bay Parkway and McDonald Avenue, near the Bay Parkway station on the IND Culver Line. Burials still take place in Cemetery number one.
