Pictures from Concourse — Concourse, the Bronx: The Grand Concourse and Its Historic District
The Grand Concourse looking south at 165th Street
A very wide roadway under a flat grey sky, seen from the middle of the street. A narrow concrete island runs away from the camera down the centre, paved with metal subway grating and carrying a single ornamental lamppost with scrolled ironwork and two lanterns on curved arms. To the left of the island a broad asphalt carriageway with a double yellow line runs south; to the right, a planted median of low shrubs and bare earth separates it from a second roadway with cars parked along the kerb. Apartment blocks line both sides, mostly five to eight storeys in pale buff and red brick, with a taller white tower with balconies at the far left and a broad light-coloured slab building in the distance. The trees along the kerbs are leafless, traffic lights and a Speed Limit 30 sign stand at the crossing ahead, and a few cars and a bus are stopped in the middle distance.
