Noe Valley, San Francisco: 24th Street, the Town Square and the Church Street shops

24th Street is the commercial spine. The Planning Code names the zoning district over its shopfronts 24TH STREET- NOE VALLEY NEIGHBORHOOD COMMERCIAL. A StreetSmArts mural by Shawn Bullen, dated 2014/15 in the city's record, is painted at 4049 24th Street.

The Noe Valley Town Square is at 3861 24th Street: a Recreation and Park mini park of 0.28 acres, which the department records as 12,024.91 square feet. Two bronze pieces by Wowhaus stand in the square, catalogued by the San Francisco Arts Commission as "Garden Guardians", accession 2017.2.a-b. One measures 36 by 24 by 16 inches, the other 28 by 18 by 12 inches.

The Noe Valley Bakery is at 4073 24th Street and sells cakes, cupcakes, cookies, breakfast pastries, bread, desserts, pies and lunch items; it has a second location at 28 W Portal Avenue, outside the neighbourhood. Firefly is at 4288 24th Street, open Tuesday to Saturday 5:30 to 8:30pm, with reservations online or by telephone after 3 pm Tuesday to Saturday; the site states no cuisine.

Church Street carries the rest. Lovejoy's Tea Room is at 1351 Church Street, open Thursday to Sunday 11 to 5pm with a last seating at 3pm, and furnished with mismatched china and furniture, handmade tea cozies and broken china mosaics. Drewes Bros. Meats, a full service butcher shop, is at 1706 Church Street, open Monday to Friday 9:30 to 7:30, Saturday 9:00 to 6:30 and Sunday 10:00 to 6:00. Omnivore Books on Food is at 3885A Cesar Chavez Street, in what its own site calls an old butcher shop, selling new and vintage books on food and drink alongside vintage menus, risographs, aprons and kitchen moulds, and open daily. La Ciccia is at 291 30th Street, serving 5:30 to 9:45 pm Tuesday to Thursday and 5:30 to 10:00 pm Friday and Saturday.

The Axford House at 1190 Noe Street is San Francisco Landmark No. 133, designated in 1981; it is a private house at the corner of Noe and 25th Streets. The David Lewis House at 4143 23rd Street is San Francisco Landmark No. 186, designated in 1988; it is a private house on 23rd Street between Castro and Diamond. The Carnegie Noe Valley / Sally Brunn Branch Library at 451 Jersey Street is San Francisco Landmark No. 259, designated in 2008 under Article 10 of the Planning Code, by an ordinance carried as Board of Supervisors File No. 080189; the designation findings name John Reid, Jr. as the architect, give a period of significance beginning in 1915, and name three interior features: the ornamental ceiling of the Main Reading Room, the glazed and panelled partition between the Main Reading Room and the Children's Room, and a deck and garden at the rear. The Lyon-Martin House at 651 Duncan Street is San Francisco Landmark No. 292, designated in 2021 by Ordinance No. 74-21, Board of Supervisors File No. 210286.

The Liberty Hill Historic District was designated under Article 10 of the Planning Code by Ordinance 484-85, adopted on 25 October 1985, and stands as Appendix F to that article. The Liberty Street Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on 15 September 1983, reference number 83001230, with its extent given as roughly 15 to 188 Liberty Street.

The Noe Valley Church & Ministry is at 1021 Sanchez Street. Its sanctuary seats 110 and holds a stained glass window and an elevated stage with a Steinway D concert grand; the sanctuary and Labyrinth Hall together measure 2,941 square feet and take 200 with auditorium seating or 80 at banquet tables. Noe Music presents concerts in the building. St Paul's Catholic Church is at 221 Valley Street and St Philip the Apostle at 725 Diamond Street; no source states opening hours or service times for either, so none are given here. St Paul's School is at 1690 Church Street, with nine regular classrooms, one per grade from kindergarten to eighth, plus art, science, extended care, a technology and library centre and a gym and parish centre.

The open space is mostly Recreation and Park's. Douglass Playground at 1098 Douglass Street covers 7.89 acres, recorded as 343,572.33 square feet, and a mosaic by Lois Anderson dated 1988, accession 1988.3, is fixed to the exterior of its fieldhouse at Douglass and 26th Streets. The Upper Noe Recreation Center at 295 Day Street covers 2.92 acres and its building dates from 1957; six steel and glass pieces by Troy Corliss, accession 2008.13.1-6, stand at its entrances. Noe Valley Courts is at 780 Douglass Street, Duncan & Castro Open Space at 592 Duncan Street, 29th & Diamond Open Space at 1701 Diamond Street, and the Clipper Terrace Community Garden at 855 Clipper Terrace, which San Francisco Public Works owns rather than Recreation and Park. Billy Goat Hill covers 3.67 acres at 294 Beacon Street, and Portola Open Space covers 0.81 acres and has no street address.
