Alvord Lake
Park · Golden Gate Park, California
A small lake by the Haight Street entrance, lined with concrete and rocks and holding a small island.
History
Park Commissioner William Alvord donated $200 for construction of a lily pond to grow hardy lilies; the pond was made in 1882 and enlarged in 1889. Unlike other park lakes, which are lined with clay, it is lined with concrete.
