Atherton House

A house of 1881 to 1882 built for Dominga de Goni Atherton (1823-1890), widow of Faxon Atherton and mother-in-law of the novelist Gertrude Atherton. Queen Anne blended with Stick and Eastlake work: horizontal lines, a clipped gable and a short tower. The architect is thought to be John Marquis. It is San Francisco Landmark No. 70, designated in 1975, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, reference number 79000527, on 31 January 1979. It is a private residence and no source states opening hours, so none are given here.
