Burke Mountain Resort
Ski area · Burke, Vermont
A chairlift-served ski area in East Burke, home to Burke Mountain Academy's alpine ski racers, that emerged from federal receivership when Bear Den Partners closed its $11.5 million purchase on May 2, 2025.
History
Burke Mountain Resort's own site brands the area "Est. 1956," and states that skiing at Burke traces to trails first cut in 1953; the same site places the resort in East Burke, Vermont, seven miles from Interstate 91. Burke Mountain spent nearly a decade in federal receivership tied to what WCAX described as "the $200 million EB-5 Kingdom con" before Bear Den Partners — described by WCAX as "an ownership group with local ties" that had "been working on this now for four years" — was announced as its new buyer in April 2025, with plans for roughly $10 million of capital investment over the first two years of ownership and an aim to triple snowmaking capacity, per WCAX's own reporting. The Bear Den Partners ownership group closed on its purchase of Burke Mountain Resort on Friday, May 2, 2025, for $11.5 million, after the receivership judge approved the sale, per SAM (Ski Area Management)'s article dated May 6, 2025. Burke Mountain Academy, founded in 1970 in East Burke, trains alpine ski racers on the slopes of Burke Mountain.
