Fontana del Fiume a Villa Celimontana
Historic site · Celio, Italy
A seventeenth-century fountain in Villa Celimontana commissioned by Ciriaco Mattei: an elliptical basin backed by a masonry architectural screen with two open niches, surmounted by a semi-reclining marble statue, possibly a personification of the river Nera, holding a skin from which the water flows.
History
Roma Capitale records that the statue's head, stolen in 2005, was recovered and put back in its place in 2007.
