History
The Grade II* listing was made on 1 March 1974 as list entry 1065629, under the statutory address "Church of St Nicholas, St Nicholas Road, Sutton". A large World War II bomb landed on the churchyard in 1940, destroying several graves and leaving the church itself intact. Four churchyard tombs and a carved headstone carry their own entries and are not the church: the Gibson Mausoleum, Grade II, NHLE 1065630; a headstone with a relief carving of the Good Samaritan, Grade II, NHLE 1449875; and the tombs of Cecil Talbot, Elizabeth Beacham and the Hall family, Grade II, NHLE 1449867, NHLE 1449874 and NHLE 1449841.
