History

The District No. 5 School House, a single-story wood frame building with Italianate and Stick/Eastlake styling that served as a schoolhouse until 1953, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 11, 1997, per Wikipedia's article on the building; its NRHP nomination states it was "probably built about 1880," though "local tradition assigns a construction date of 1852." The local historical society restored the building in 1988, after it had previously been repurposed for use by a rescue squad.
