Elton Tavern
Historic site · Burlington, Connecticut
Built in 1810 by merchant Giles Griswold and first taxed as "a house with seven fireplaces — more than any other in town." The second-floor ballroom's barrel-vaulted ceiling spans the full building facade, with a Palladian-style window over the entry. Used as a private home, public house and inn before the Town of Burlington bought it in 1974; the Historical Society now runs it as a museum with a full events calendar.
