Haslett Warehouse and the Argonaut Hotel

Hotel · Fisherman's Wharf, California

A brick and timber warehouse at 680 Beach Street, now a 252-room hotel that opened in August 2003, sharing the building with the visitor center of San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park. The hotel gives its own frontage as 495 Jefferson Street; both addresses are the same building. It is San Francisco Landmark No. 59, designated in 1974, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on 28 March 1975, reference number 75000172.

History

It was built between 1907 and 1909 to a design by William S. Mooser Jr. for the California Fruit Canners Association, and stored Central Valley produce canned east of the warehouse. In 1916 the association merged into California Packing, which sold under the Del Monte label. The National Park Service leased the roughly 198,000 square feet to Kimpton in 2002 on a 57-year term, and the building remains part of the park.
