The pier at 2905 Hyde Street, part of San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park and, until recently, the berth of its fleet. It is closed while it is rebuilt. The ships of San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park are berthed at the Mare Island Coal Sheds in Vallejo while Hyde Street Pier is rebuilt.

History

Before the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges opened, Hyde Street Pier was an automobile-ferry terminal, carrying US 101 to Sausalito and US 40 to Berkeley. The ferries were run by the Golden Gate Ferry Company, which merged with Southern Pacific's auto-ferry system in early 1929; from 1 May 1929 the service was taken over by Southern Pacific-Golden Gate Ferries, Ltd.
