Fort Point

The masonry fort under the south approach of the Golden Gate Bridge. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, reference number 70000146, certified 16 October 1970. The National Park Service gives opening Thursday to Monday, 10:00am to 5:00pm, with roof access closing at 4:30pm, and closure on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
History
Built between 1853 and 1861 by the U.S. Army Engineers as a Third System fort. Strauss's arch carried the bridge over it.
