Gillette Castle State Park

A 14,000-square-foot stone castle built in 1914 by actor William Hooker Gillette, famed for playing Sherlock Holmes, perched 200 feet over the Connecticut River. Grounds open daily 8 a.m. to sunset, free; castle tours $6 ages 13+, with seasonal self-guided tours Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, fall weekends through Columbus Day, and a Thanksgiving-Christmas holiday program.
