Harrow School

John Lyon, a local landowner and farmer, founded the school in 1572 under a royal charter of Elizabeth I, and it was one of the seven public schools selected for reform in the Public Schools Act 1868. As of July 2026 the school reported an enrolment of 833 boys, all boarding full-time, in twelve boarding houses. Its alumni include seven British prime ministers — Aberdeen, Spencer Perceval, F. J. Goderich, Robert Peel, Henry Palmerston, Stanley Baldwin and Winston Churchill — and the Indian prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru. The Old Schools was listed Grade I on 21 September 1951 as list entry 1079741.
