Harvey Milk Plaza and the Rainbow Flag

The open plaza where Market, Castro and 17th Streets meet, above the main entrance to Castro station. The rainbow flag flying over it, together with its flagpole, is San Francisco Landmark No. 319, designated in 2024; the register carries no parcel address for it, because the designation is the flag and the pole rather than a building.
History
The plaza was dedicated to Harvey Milk in 1985. The flagpole was added in 1997, for the twentieth anniversary of his election. Castro station beneath it opened in 1980.
