Houses of Parliament (Palace of Westminster)

The palace was rebuilt from 1840 by Charles Barry, with interiors by A.W.N. Pugin, after the old palace burned in 1834. UNESCO describes it as rebuilt from the year 1840 on the site of important medieval remains and as a fine example of neo-Gothic architecture. It is one of the three elements of the World Heritage Site NHLE 1000095, inscribed in 1987, with Westminster Abbey and the Church of St Margaret, Westminster, which is Grade I, NHLE 1226286. The medieval Jewel Tower across Abingdon Street carries two designations of different types: a Grade I listing, NHLE 1225529, named THE JEWEL HOUSE (OR TOWER) OF THE PALACE OF WESTMINSTER, and a scheduled monument, NHLE 1003580, which carries no grade. The Cenotaph in Whitehall is Grade I, NHLE 1357354, and eight telephone kiosks, two K2 and six K6, stand outside the former HM Treasury building under one Grade II entry, NHLE 1393340.
