History

New Hampshire purchased the Madison Boulder property in 1946, and the site was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1970 by the U.S. Department of the Interior, per NH State Parks' own Madison Boulder Natural Area page. The Madison Boulder, at 83 feet long and weighing over 5,000 tons, is described by NH State Parks as one of the largest known glacial erratics in North America.
