Manor Farm and the Great Barn, Ruislip

The Great Barn was built about 1280 of English oak from the neighbouring Ruislip Woods and was listed Grade II* on 6 September 1974 as list entry 1358359, under the register name "GREAT BARN TO WEST OF MANOR FARM YARD". The 16th-century Little Barn, NHLE 1192707, was converted into a library that opened on 2 November 1937 and was renovated in 2007–08. The 16th-century Manor Farmhouse, NHLE 1080162, listed on 24 January 1950, served as the manorial court until 1925. The moat is a scheduled monument, NHLE 1002045, believed to have been extended to create an oval area carrying a wooden castle 350 ft by 200 ft, presumably for the landowner Ernulf de Hesdin; a second scheduled monument at Ruislip, Park Pale, NHLE 1021402, lies in the woods to the north. King's College, Cambridge, have been titular lords of the manor since 1451. The Cow Byre Gallery stands in the farmyard, at The Cow Byre, Bury Street, HA4 7SU, operated by the Compass Theatre. Ruislip Underground station, on the Metropolitan and Piccadilly lines, is 852 m away.
