Merton Abbey Mills

The Colour House, a mid-eighteenth-century industrial building now a children's theatre, carries the list entry name COLOUR HOUSE AT MISTERS LIBERTY'S PRINT WORKS, NHLE 1080891, and the Wheel House the name WHEEL HOUSE AT MISTERS LIBERTY'S PRINTWORKS, NHLE 1193882. Textile works stood nearby from 1667 and Huguenot silk workers established mills here in the early 1700s. Morris and Co. worked at the Merton Abbey Works from 1881 to 1940, and Liberty and Co. took the Littler site in 1904 and ran the Merton Abbey Mills until 1972.
