Meshomasic State Forest
Park · Portland, Connecticut
Established in 1903 and covering roughly 9,000 acres primarily in Portland, East Hampton and Marlborough, with smaller portions in Glastonbury and Hebron — the first state forest in Connecticut and the second in the United States. Offers hiking including the blue-blazed Shenipsit Trail, mountain biking and hunting; camping is not permitted. Holds Connecticut's largest population of the endangered timber rattlesnake.
