Roma Capitale records that the Municipal Council resolved to raise a monument to Giuseppe Garibaldi on the site of the Corsini casino at the top of the Passeggiata, that in 1884 the commission chose Emilio Gallori's proposal for a large equestrian statue on a high base decorated with bronze groups of Garibaldian battle scenes and allegories of Europe and America, that Gallori began work in 1886, and that the monument was inaugurated on 20 September 1895.
