The Comune's museums on the Capitoline, occupying the Palazzo dei Conservatori, the Palazzo Nuovo and the Palazzo Caffarelli around the piazza del Campidoglio. The museum's own site gives daily opening 09.30-19.30, with last admission one hour before closing, 09.30-14.00 on 24 and 31 December, 11.00-20.00 on 1 January 2026, and closure on 1 May and 25 December; the contact line is the 060608 call centre, daily 09.00-19.00. From February 2026 the museum's own site states that admission is free for residents of Roma and the Citta Metropolitana on production of an identity card. For non-residents the site gives, in the absence of temporary exhibitions, EUR 15,00 full and EUR 9,50 reduced; with the exhibitions running when this page was checked on 2 September 2026, EUR 20,50 full and EUR 15,00 reduced, a ticket which the site states does not admit to exhibitions at Villa Caffarelli. Online, 060608 and box-office presale carry a EUR 1,00 booking fee, and presold tickets are stated to be non-refundable and non-changeable. History

The museum's own history page dates the birth of the Musei Capitolini to 1471, when Pope Sixtus IV gave the Roman people a group of bronze statues. Its page on the piazza and the palaces names the Protomoteca Capitolina among the museum's rooms. The Lupa Capitolina, a bronze she-wolf, is held in the Musei Capitolini.
